The magic of an open fire

LoderFire and OnFire

The new wood fireplaces are here!

The cooler months in particular show what cooking with an open fire is really all about. With LoderFire and OnFire, we are expanding our range with two wood fires that make outdoor cooking a year-round experience.

When I, Andreas, founded FLAM.E years ago, I had a vision: to bring people closer to the fascination of fire and the art of outdoor cooking. There is hardly anything more original than sitting around an open fire, listening to the crackling flames and cooking and enjoying food together.

Today I am particularly pleased to present two exceptional new products that are now available in our showroom in Wolkersdorf and also in our online store: the Austrian LoderFire wood fires and the Italian OnFire fire grill systems. In their very own way, both brands embody exactly what FLAM.E stands for: premium quality, sophisticated functionality and a pure passion for cooking with fire.

Why wood-burning fireplaces are more than just a trend

In my years as an outdoor kitchen specialist, I have seen many trends come and go. But for me, the wood fire is much more than a recurring trend, it’s a return to what outdoor cooking is really all about.

Modern wood fires have little in common with the simple fire bowls of the past. They have become sophisticated cooking stations that enable a wide variety of cooking methods while still creating that incomparable atmosphere that only a real wood fire can offer. The warmth, the smell of burning wood, the characteristic smoky aroma in the food – nothing can replace all of this. At the same time, modern brands such as LoderFire and OnFire offer precision and versatility that will delight even the most demanding amateur chefs and professionals.

LoderFire: When Austrian craftsmanship meets fire

The cook&grill firetable – the heart of the system

With LoderFire, we have added an Austrian manufacturer to our range that perfectly embodies my philosophy of quality and functionality. The cook&grill firetable is far more than just another fire pit. It is a sophisticated outdoor cooking station that leaves nothing to be desired. At its heart is the solid 8 mm thick steel fireplate, which creates different temperature zones with its folded edge and slightly curved shape.

This design is no coincidence, but the result of years of development work. In the middle, directly above the fire, temperatures of over 300 degrees are generated – perfect for searing steaks. The heat decreases continuously towards the outside, allowing you to gently cook vegetables, keep sauces warm or toast bread at the same time. It is this versatility that makes the LoderFire cook&grill firetable a fully-fledged outdoor kitchen.

The art of plancha grilling

Barbecuing on the plancha, as this type of griddle is also known, is in vogue for good reason. The even heat distribution of the solid steel plate ensures perfect results, whether you are cooking fish, meat, vegetables or even pancakes.

The advantages of the LoderFire plancha at a glance:

  • Even heat distribution over the entire plate
  • Different temperature zones for simultaneous cooking
  • No food falling through grates
  • Perfect crust for meat and fish
  • Easy cleaning of the smooth surface

The WOK attachment further expands the possibilities and brings Asian cooking techniques to the outdoor area. The hotplate ring transforms an area of the plate into a focused high-temperature zone – ideal for the perfect steak with that coveted crust. All these well thought-out details make the LoderFire a system that is second to none in terms of versatility.

OnFire: Italian design meets culinary passion

Aesthetics and function in perfection

OnFire from Italy brings a completely different, but no less fascinating philosophy to our range. Even at first glance, it is clear that this is not just a fire pit, but a design object that will become the focal point of any garden design.

The characteristic elliptical shape of the grill plate is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also follows a well thought-out concept. The ellipse creates natural temperature zones that run from the hot center to the cooler edges. This makes it easy to prepare an entire meal at the same time. While the meat sizzles in the middle, vegetables and side dishes are cooked at moderate temperatures around the edges.

Material and workmanship at the highest level

The Italians know how to combine functionality with elegance like no other people, and this is reflected in every detail of the OnFire systems.

The material options in detail:

  • Corten steelDevelops a characteristic rust patina that acts as natural corrosion protection and gives each piece an individual character
  • Black powder-coated metalRemains permanently elegant and blends in perfectly with modern garden architecture
  • Both variants are extremely resistant to all weather conditions

Versatile cooking options all year round

What I personally love about OnFire is the versatility of the cooking options. You can grill on the hot plate, work directly over the fire, smoke, cook indirectly or even bake pizza with the right attachment.

This flexibility makes OnFire a year-round companion. In summer as a convivial centerpiece for garden parties, in winter as an outdoor cooking station that can be used to prepare delicious dishes for cosy evenings indoors.

Available sizes:

  • 100 cm high version with integrated wood storage
  • 100 cm high version without wood storage
  • Compact 60 cm version for smaller gardens and patios

My personal assessment: Which fireplace suits whom?

LoderFire – The functionalist

Both brands play in the absolute premium league, but have different focuses. LoderFire embodies Austrian engineering with a clear focus on maximum functionality. The cook&grill firetable is like a Swiss army knife: well thought-out down to the smallest detail, robust and incredibly versatile.

LoderFire is perfect when:

  • you like to experiment and want to try out different cooking techniques
  • Precise temperature control is important
  • you value robust, durable construction
  • Functionality comes before design
  • you are looking for a reliable outdoor kitchen for ambitious cooking projects

OnFire – The esthete

OnFire, on the other hand, is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to harmonize design and functionality. The Italian fireplaces are works of art that impress as sculptures in the garden even without a fire. However, the cooking qualities should not be underestimated – the elliptical plate and the various cooking zones enable professional work at the highest level.

OnFire fits perfectly when:

  • Design and aesthetics are just as important as functionality
  • cooking is celebrated as a social event
  • the fireplace should also be a visual highlight
  • you value a stylish ambience
  • you are looking for a design object that will beautify the garden even when unused

Why are we so fascinated by open fires?

In all the years that I have been involved with outdoor kitchens, I have noticed time and again: There is a deep, almost archaic connection between people and fire. You can often see this fascination in the eyes of customers – this attraction that an open fire exerts. It is more than just a source of heat or a cooking appliance. It is a meeting place, a catalyst for conversation and shared experiences. Modern wood fires such as LoderFire and OnFire enhance this magic even further by combining the original fire experience with state-of-the-art cooking techniques.

Sustainability and environmental awareness

Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role here. As a renewable raw material, wood makes this type of cooking an environmentally friendly alternative. In Austria, we are lucky enough to be able to fall back on high-quality domestic wood.

The right choice of wood for your fireplace:

  • BeechEven heat, ideal for longer cooking sessions
  • Oak: Long embers, perfect for low & slow dishes
  • Fruit trees: Special flavor for meat and fish
  • Birch: Rapid heat development, ideal for stoking up

In contrast to gas or electricity, you are working with a CO2-neutral energy source, provided you use wood from sustainable forestry.

Practical considerations: What you should know before you buy

The perfect location for the fireplace

From my experience, I know that the decision for a wood-burning fireplace should be well thought out. The right location is crucial for later enjoyment.

Important location factors:

  • At least 3 meters safety distance from flammable materials
  • Consideration of the main wind direction (smoke development)
  • Stable, fire-resistant substrate (stone or concrete slabs)
  • Good accessibility from the indoor kitchen
  • Sufficient space for social gatherings
  • Not too close to windows or doors (avoid smoke nuisance)

Legal framework in Austria

In Austria, different regulations apply to open fireplaces depending on the municipality. Cooking fires are usually permitted, while pure campfires may require a permit. The good news is that both LoderFire and OnFire are primarily designed as cooking appliances and therefore generally fall under the less stringent requirements.

Perfect protection from tarpaulin makers – Tailor-made covers from Austria

One topic that is particularly close to my heart is the proper protection of high-quality fireplaces. That’s why I founded another company, Planenmacher, which specializes in custom-made covers for outdoor furniture and kitchen appliances. We all know the problem: you buy a standard tarpaulin somewhere and realize it doesn’t fit properly. At Planenmacher, we make covers exactly to measure – Made in Austria from high-quality materials.

Whether for your LoderFire or OnFire fireplace, we produce the perfect protective cover to protect your investment for years to come. The special thing about this is that we can, in principle, create all the shapes you need in different colors and with different customization options such as fastenings, zippers or openings. This means that your premium fireplace remains optimally protected even in wind and weather and still looks like new even after years.

Care and maintenance – easier than expected

The maintenance of a high-quality wood-burning fireplace is pleasantly uncomplicated. LoderFire and OnFire steel panels are designed for outdoor use and develop a natural patina over time, which serves as additional protection.

Care tips for long-lasting pleasure:

  • Remove coarse soiling after use
  • Rub the plate occasionally with heat-resistant oil
  • Remove ash regularly (excellent garden fertilizer!)
  • Use a cover in winter
  • Carry out a complete cleaning once a year
